When my children started to purchase their own cars I advised them to be sure that for as long as they owned the car that they keep it covered with a repair warranty. When their new car warranties are about to expire in most cases they can extend them by going to auto warranty companies. If the car is too old to have the warranty extended it might be time to think about trading if off for a new car that would once again be covered. I could not stress enough to them how devastating a large unbudgeted repair bill can be.
