With so many computers out there, and so many people either upgrading their hard drive or adding a second one, it’s bound to get a little confusing. Whether they use expensive or cheap hard drives, one item that many people forget about is how the hard drive connects to the computer.By far, the most common type of connection is a USB. It is ridiculously simple – just plug it in and you can use the hard drive instantly. Then there’s FireWire is almost exclusive to Macs but you do find it on PCs from time to time. It comes in two speeds: FireWire 400 is about as fast as USB but FireWire 800 is a whole lot faster.SATA is the connection you’re most likely to find on internal drives. Your computer probably has one. It’s faster than anything else. And then once in a great moon you’ll come across an eSATA. It’s known for its high performance and is comparable to an internal drive.
