Constipation is caused by the slow passing of digested food in the intestines. It is also associated with strain and pain while defecating.The most common area for constipation to occur is in the colon. As a result of this, the natural urge to defecate is greatly retarded and one will find that bowel actions only take place twice per week or none at all.Normal bowel action occurs 21 times per week. This means that the average person defecates at least 3 times per day. Some people may do this less and not feel any discomfort in passing stool.
