Exercisers are least likely to have balance problems after middle age. If you are not an exerciser, you will have to become one if you want to avoid falls. To check whether you have a balance problem and need to start over 50 exercise, take a self-test: Stand in front of a desk. Hold it if you lose balance during this test. Shut your eyes and raise one foot off the floor. Count the number of seconds you are able to balance on the other foot. If you were able to hold for more than 20 seconds, you are as fit as a young adult. If you cannot hold for even 5 seconds, it’s time to work out and perform balance boosting exercises.
